Deconstruction, Stabilization & Preservation
William Thomas Building (WTB)
46—52 James Street North, Hamilton, Ontario
- WTB is comprised of three attached buildings located on the east side of James Street North between and Rebecca Street. The demising wall between the two buildings is considered to be “common” in that it relies on the lateral support from floor joists of both buildings. The historical six-storey Lister Building adjoins on the south side of the WTB. In 1923 the Lister Building was rebuilt after it was destroyed by fire. As the Lister Building was built against the WTB, the lower four floors of the Lister Building would have no exterior finishing treatment once the WTB was demolished.
- Shoring, stabilization and demising wall design.
