Senior Forensic Engineer - Building Sciences/Structural
Location: Newmarket
Note: This position will report to the Newmarket office, however work location is flexible.
Arbitech Inc. is a firm specializing in Forensic Engineering and Construction Claims resolution with offices throughout Ontario, in Breslau (Waterloo), Burlington, Newmarket, Collingwood and Toronto. We are growing firm with a team of experts in their field. Our client base includes Contractors and recognized legal firms across Canada.
We are currently looking for a Professional Engineer with qualified expertise in forensic investigation of building envelope failures and construction claims . We require a recognized specialist who can work independently to prepare and carry out investigation plans, prepare reports and serve as an expert witness. Applicants must have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with a team of skilled specialists.
Skills and Experience Requirements:
- Professional Engineer with minimum 15 years experience in building failure investigation, restoration design of structures and building envelopes and contract administration.
- Excellent evidence documentation and technical writing skills.
- Thorough knowledge of provincial/federal building regulatory regime, construction contracts and construction trade practices.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Effective project management skills.
- Effective, responsive communication skills (verbal and written).
- Hands-on experience with material testing is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Willingness to work at heights, including climbing ladders and accessing swing stages or lifts; and ability to carry and utilize testing equipment and work on construction sites is required.
- A valid driver’s license and insured vehicle to travel to project sites.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will serve the role of Senior Forensic Engineer in our Building Sciences/Structural practice area which will include:
- Responding to inquiries for prospective work and following up with client agreements;
- Promoting the firm and business development;
- Reviewing background documentation and performing early neutral evaluation;
- Preparing and implementing forensic investigation plans;
- Communicating investigation conclusions both verbally and through concisely written expert opinion reports;
- Providing expert testimony at trial and mediation proceedings;
- Developing and managing project budgets and invoicing;
- Contributing to the knowledge sharing culture through meetings and other training opportunities.
The location for this position is flexible and can be based from any of our current offices with the ability to work-from-home. We offer a competitive benefits package and excellent compensation.
